WHAT TO DO
If you find wildlife in trouble
Stay calm
Wildlife that is injured or frightened can be extremely stressed. Keep noise and activity around the animal to a minimum.
Keep your distance
Don't assume an animal has been abandoned simply because it is alone. Where possible, observe from a safe distance and seek advice before intervening.

Follow their advice
Wildlife has very specific needs. A trained rescuer can advise you on safe handling, transport and immediate care.
IMPORTANT
Please don't feed the animal
One of the most common mistakes people make is offering food or water to an injured or orphaned animal before receiving advice.
Different species and ages have very different nutritional requirements, and inappropriate food or feeding techniques can cause serious harm.
Contact an experienced wildlife carer first and follow their instructions.
FOUND A BABY?
Is it really orphaned?
Young wildlife can sometimes appear to be alone when their mother is nearby. This is why it is important not to assume that a joey or other young animal has been abandoned.
A wildlife rescuer can help you assess the situation and determine the safest course of action.
Never put yourself at risk
Roads, fires, injured adult animals and other hazards can make wildlife rescues dangerous. Your safety comes first.
