Giving orphaned wildlife a second chance

Little Pouch Crew Tasmania was created from a lifelong love of wildlife and a desire to give orphaned native animals the care, time and safe environment they need to grow strong and return to the wild.

Karen caring for an orphaned joey

A dream that started long ago

From a young age, Karen dreamed of having wildlife at home and being able to help orphaned joeys. That dream eventually became something much more than an idea.

Little Pouch Crew began in 2025, with Karen turning that lifelong dream into reality. She has completed her wildlife rescue and rehabilitation training and is now a qualified wildlife carer and rescuer.

Karen is qualified to rescue and care for pademelons, wallabies and brushtail possums, with Little Pouch Crew currently focusing on the care and rehabilitation of pademelons.

More than just looking after joeys

Wildlife rehabilitation is a commitment that involves much more than caring for an animal once it arrives. Safe enclosures, appropriate food, equipment, enrichment and a suitable environment all play an important role in preparing wildlife for life in the wild.

Rescue

Pademelons needing rescue and care are identified through the Bonorong xMatters system, with animals requiring assistance appearing regularly.

Rehabilitation

Joeys are provided with the food, care, shelter and environment they need while they grow and develop.

Return to the wild

The ultimate goal is to give every animal the skills, strength and confidence it needs to eventually return to the wild.

A safe haven in nature

Little Pouch Crew is based on a private property in Northern Tasmania, surrounded by native bushland.

This peaceful setting provides a safe environment for the orphaned pademelons in our care to grow, explore and develop the natural skills they need for life in the wild.

The property gives us the space to build and maintain rehabilitation enclosures, provide natural surroundings and create a calm, low-stress environment where wildlife can thrive.

Built with care

Our wildlife enclosures are designed to keep the pademelons safe while giving them the space to behave naturally.

Each enclosure is built and maintained with the wellbeing of the animals in mind, with natural ground cover, shelter, vegetation and enrichment.

These spaces allow the joeys to grow strong, build confidence and develop the skills they need before returning to the wild.

Growing carefully, with the wildlife in mind

Little Pouch Crew currently focuses on pademelons, but the long-term goal is to continue developing the facilities and experience needed to care for more native wildlife.

Every new enclosure, improvement and piece of equipment helps create better opportunities for wildlife in care.

A safe place today, a wilder tomorrow.
